Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, or EMDR, goes beyond talk therapy and is a very effective psychotherapy treatment that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. Originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories, EMDR reprocesses events to alleviate a variety of issues. Many times, an event becomes ‘stuck’ in someone’s memory and they continually relive the experience, affecting how they interact with people and see the world. After a successful EMDR treatment, clients reprocess the event and while they still remember what happened, no longer are plagued with reliving the trauma.
