While I have training and experience working with people of all ages and genders, I am especially passionate about adolescent and young adult therapy and counseling for women.
I am an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and counsel individuals who identify within the broad spectrum of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, or EMDR, goes beyond talk therapy and is a very effective psychotherapy treatment that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. Originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories, EMDR reprocesses events to alleviate a variety of issues. Many times, an event becomes ‘stuck’ in someone’s memory and they continually relive the experience, affecting how they interact with people and see the world. After a successful EMDR treatment, clients reprocess the event and while they still remember what happened, no longer are plagued with reliving the trauma.
Women
Women are complex and often put themselves last on the “to-do” list of life. I get fired up when I’m able to support women as they tell a new story, make positive changes, and feel valued in their life.
I am simply your navigator in the process. Together we’ll develop strategies to help you balance your life, push past negative feelings, and create a do-able plan for the future.
Exciting doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel when women discover their ability to change a situation and uncover the answers they had within them all along. It is thrilling, amazing, and awe-inspiring to walk alongside someone as the lights come on and they begin to write their next chapter. Being a catalyst for change is best part of my job.
You’ll never regret investing in yourself. I’m ready to do so—are you?
Adolescents
I’m a huge advocate for young adults and adolescents to help them see beyond themselves allowing them to get unstuck. When young people feel alone, I’m especially eager to be their guide and let them see the many champions standing behind them.
I work well with adolescents, possibly because I’m still a big kid myself. Working with me is your personalized, judgment-free zone to think out loud, talk about your life, problems, parents, school, and anything else. We will work together to best manage your stressors and life.
As your therapist, I’m in your corner and believe that you can be feeling better. I offer a safe and confidential space where you can just be you. Therapy is completely confidential, with a few exceptions, and I will only talk to your parents if you are in danger or if we discuss ahead of time what you would like shared.
As I worked with adolescents, I noticed themes emerging that I had seen in both my therapy practice and previous life as a teacher. I learned to recognize phrases and patterns that damage a child’s self-esteem. I wanted to share my insights, so I wrote a book that didn’t just point out what not to say, but what you should say when talking with kids. My book, “Toxic Terms: 10 Things Never to Say to Kids…But What You Can Say Instead”, is available on Amazon.
